Monday marks one year since a shooting on Easter Sunday left two teenagers dead. The shooting happened at a crowded party at an Airbnb on Pittsburgh's North Side. Police said around 200 people were at that party. No arrests have been made.Pittsburgh's Action News 4 reached out to Pittsburgh Public Safety to inquire about the status of the investigation. A spokesperson said this was an active investigation, adding the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the District Attorney’s Office are utilizing other investigative tools in this case.Jaiden Brown and Matthew Steffy-Ross, both 17, were killed just weeks away from graduating high school. Several others were injured. Lee Davis, a violence prevention expert, mentored Brown and Steffy-Ross. “When we talk about Matthew and Jaiden, and the year that has gone by since they passed, that situation has fueled a lot of us, our organizations, our politicians and just the communities to step up…now, we have more funding to put more people on the ground to fight this violence and bring resources to the families that need it as well,” Davis said.Davis visited Steffy-Ross’ school to talk to students on the one-year anniversary of his death.“They only know what they have heard about Matthew, so for me to talk to them and give them firsthand knowledge about Matthew and how great of a kid he was and what he was working on was awesome. I think by the time we got done talking, everybody was motivated to do something in their community,” Davis said.Davis said he knew Brown as a child and reconnected with him years later when he was a teen.“He was a delight to be around too, a naturally funny guy, and he was also an inspiration, and he definitely was changing hearts and minds, hearts and minds of the kids that were around him,” Davis said.Davis said Steffy-Ross was ready to launch a clothing line before his death, using a powerful slogan.“His main message was we need to change the mindsets of the youth. The legislation has not been passed. Last month, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania issued a ruling that struck down the city's existing Rental Registry Program. Last May, Pittsburgh police identified a man who was depicted in pictures that authorities said was connected to the Airbnb shooting. That man's identity has not been released, and notably, Pittsburgh police never described the man as a "suspect" or "person of interest."
