Former Shady Side Academy star came up big in AFC championship game

Skyy Moore, a New Kensington native and former Shady Side Academy star, is going to Super Bowl LVII in his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs."A special guy:" Watch the report from New Kensington in the video above."He's not a kid that won the genetic lottery. He's a kid that, everything he has, he worked for, he earned. And as great of a football player he is, he's an even better person," Shady Side football coach Chuck DiNardo told Pittsburgh's Action Sports.Moore delivered for the Chiefs in a crucial moment in the AFC championship game on Sunday, returning a punt 29 yards late in the fourth quarter. It set the Chiefs up with a good field position before they kicked the winning field goal moments later.Related: Four players with Pittsburgh ties will be in the Super Bowl this yearMoore wasn't even supposed to be on the field for that punt return. Benched earlier this season after fumbling three punts, he was only out there because of injuries during the game, but the 22-year-old made the most of it.DiNardo says the Shady Side and New Kensington communities have always rallied around Moore and that it was clear early on how much potential he had."He was really a special guy from the beginning, and when you get to this level, when you get a guy like that, it's going to be self-motivated," DiNardo said. "He's kind of one of these guys we talk about that he does this like he's compelled. He plays football with a love, and like he's doing it for something bigger than himself."Moore could be in line to play a big role in the Super Bowl. Three of his fellow wide receivers left Sunday's game with injuries. Another local standout, South Fayette's Justin Watson, missed the game due to an illness.
